A Brief History Of Watches

Where did watches originate? The term of the word "watch" came from 17th century and it was used by the shipboard. Watch name came from the Old English word woecce  which meant "watchman", and it was used by the town watchmen to keep track of their shifts. Nuremberg clockmaker Peter Henlein was one of the first German craftsman who made "clock-watches" and he is often credited as the inventor of the watch. Ornamental timepieces was the first timepieces to be worn on the body as pendants. Peter Henlein's fame is based on a passage by Johann Cochläus in 1511 There is no evidence Henlein was the first clockmakers because other German clockmakers were creating miniature timepieces during this period. It is also believes that the world's first wristwatch was created by Abraham-Louis Breguet for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples, in 1810. it is considered that the first watches were "sun watches" after that created the Pyra
