Why
do we not eat garlic and onion during Navratri? Let us know why we should not
eat in Navratri
During fasting, onions and garlic, which are also
components of the family of vegetables, are not allowed. Here is the reason why.
Foods
can be divided into three classifications, according to Ayurveda, depending on
their nature and the reaction that occurs after consumption in the body. The
three categories are the following:
·
Rajasic foods
·
Tamasic foods
·
Saatvik foods
People
eat satvik food during fasting. But apart from the religious aspect, there is a
scientific reason behind it. Sharad Navaratri falls in the month of October -
November, which is also the transition period from spring to winter. Our
resistance decreases due to seasonal changes. Thus, by making changes in the
satvik food in this season, your digestion gets some rest, and all the impurities
in your body are cleared.
What is satvik food?
The
word satvik comes from the word sattva, which means something pure, natural,
necessary, agile, vigorous and conscious. Satvik products include fresh fruits,
curd, rock salt, seasonal vegetables, and fine spices such as coriander and
black pepper.
Rajasic and tamasic foods
Rajas and Tamas refer to things
that are unholy, weak, angry and destructive. People are believed to enjoy
worldly pleasures during Navratri and adopt a pure and simple life for nine days.
And it is thought that getting Rajasic and Tamasic food at this time distracts
you.
Why are garlic and onion omitted?
In nature, onion and garlic are
considered retaliatory and are said to invoke the carnal energy of the body.
Onions also produce heat in the body, so they are not allowed during Navratri.
Garlic is also called onion, as well as Rajogini, a substance that can
cause people to lose grip on their instincts. This makes it difficult to
differentiate between your desires and preferences.
