Just in case you
thought our government was pulling a fast one on us about the 'world's largest
stadium in India', it's really not doing so and it's certainly not a myth!
Yes, there wasn't much
news from the site but we've just managed to get hold of some pictures from the
stadium construction site and we're literally awe-struck!
The 700 crore ($100
million) stadium was given a green signal at the beginning of 2017, when a few
prominent officials were called upon in Motera Ahmedabad, on January 16, 2017,
to take part in the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of the new stadium. Now,
two years later, we're getting a glimpse into some solid construction work
that's gone into the stadium.
The Gujarat Cricket
Association Vice-President, Parimal Nathwani tweeted out pictures of the
construction in which he clearly stated that this is the dream project of the
state cricket board and after it's completion, it will become a symbol of pride
for India.
Take a look:
The stadium will be
built across 63 acres of land, with a final budget cost of INR 700 crores, with
the help of L&T and Populous, who
have been given the construction tender and the opportunity to design it, respectively.
The infrastructure, so
far, includes three practice grounds and an indoor cricket academy, inside the
stadium. As further told to a popular publication, the parking area will
accommodate about 3,000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers!
The stadium also
boasts of having 76 corporate boxes, four dressing rooms, a club-house and an
Olympic -size swimming pool! Talk about having it all, eh?
The stadium vouches to
take over from the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Eden Gardens in Kolkata, in
every sphere. Especially in terms of capacity, seating (it can seat over 1 lakh
people) and other spatial parameters, once it's fully constructed.
Well, here's hoping
the stadium is absolutely up and ready and in full swing by 2023, while India
hosts both the Cricket World Cup and the largest cricket ground in the world!
